Building Libraries

H2 Empower constructed a community library in the town of Hosanna in Ethiopia. The entire community is enjoying this library. For the first time in their lives, children, teachers and community members have books to read that aren't school textbooks.

Through our relationships in Ethiopia and the funds we raised for this library, this town is benefiting from the generosity of many.

  • The library serves 30,000 children (the current number of school aged children in the town) and 100,000 people.
  • There were 35,793 visits to the library from September 2013 to June 2014.
  • Parents and the local community have pitched in and contributed a significant share of funding the library. They have contributed 180,000 Birr so far- over 20% of the cost.
  • The Town of Hosanna, the Hadiya Zone and local institutions also contributed towards the construction expenses of the building.
  • The town is funding a qualified librarian to run the library and develop programs.
  • The library contains about 10,000 volumes of books for adults and children.
  • The new library will eventually have a computer room for teaching computer literacy, with internet access for students, teachers and the community.
  • The library was awarded the US Ambassador's Self Grant to help with construction costs. We received a grant from Be Free Global for children's furniture in the library.
  • Please join us and help support this library. Donate now and make this happen. You can transform lives by giving opportunities to people who have never had access to a wide range of information.
